Kara & Stephen 12.15.2007

Ah - I just loved Kara & Stephen. Such a great couple -- so sweet, so cute, so fun. What started out as a "small, intimate gathering with just immediate family and close friends" turned into close to 200 people with a ROCKIN' reception late into the night! First thing was the date -- December 15th -- a usual crazy time for people with the holidays, but I loved it. The crazier the better as far as I'm concerned! But there really are so many bonuses to this time of year. The majority of wedding vendors are quiet AND most locations are already decorated for the holidays, so if you buy into that color scheme -- you're set with at least some of your "feel". The next detail was venue. Since it was winter -- outside was obviously out, easy enough. But Kara & Stephen wanted something a little more urban, more Richmond - something with a city "feel". I sent them to Main Street Station and they fell in love.

If you don't already know, Main Street Station is a operating train station in downtown Richmond. It's beautiful - a great space. You can get some great pictures down in the Bottom and around the station. The fact that trains actually arrive and depart out of there is a detail that is easily worked around and the staff there is incredibly attentive when it comes to that aspect as well. You get use of both floors so it is the perfect location to hold both the ceremony & reception if that's what a couple desires. That's what we did for Kara and Stephen.

Sam & Mel Worthington of Worthington Photography here in Richmond shot the event -- they are SO great. Such a great couple who play just beautifully off of eachother both as a couple and as photographers.

The catering -- ah the catering -- was done by Mosaic, and just... WOW. Not only is the food just absolutely delicious - but the presentation, so unique and really fun. Ryan Traylor of Mosaic was excellent to work with and has so many great ideas on how to work in couples' favorites into the menu. You can tell he's really passionate about his work as he just enjoys finding new and exciting ways to serve their food!

Luckily for us, Kara's parents are friends with one of the trumpet players in the band Ron Moody & The Centaurs - so we booked them for the reception. They are a beach music band and were just a ton of fun. I would estimate about 95% of the guests were on their feet the majority of the night, there weren't many people sitting :)

The planning went smoothly, the event went flawlessly and the couple was incredibly happy. Both families were just lovely and so fun to work with as well -- that always makes everything just so much more fun. Thank you so much for making me a part of your day. You were such a nice couple to work with and I know you'll have a very happy life together!

Warmly,
Windy
